Awesome Cheeky Monkey – scrapbook page

No trip to the St. Louis Zoo would be complete with out a picture with the Phil the Gorilla statue.  Below is a scrapbook page using a picture from several years ago of my daughters, Emma and McKayla, standing by Phil the Gorilla’s statue.

I started the layout by choosing a pink and peach triangle pattern paper from Citrus Twist, but ended up changing it out for a floral pattern paper from the Amy Tangerine Stitched paper pad.  I also used a black and white leaf pattern paper and two other yellow pattern papers from the Amy Tangerine Stitched paper pad.  I added a pink, an orange and a green pattern paper from a 6″x 6″ Colorbok paper pad.

I inked all the edges of the papers and added embellishments from my January 2016 Citrus Twist main kit.  I also used a few chipboard stickers by Amy Tangerine and some black enamel dots.

I love how this page came together!

Below is a process video  for the page.

Art Journaling by 5’s

20 pages in five 15 minute sessions is concept behind Journaling by 5’s.  I was introduced to this process by watching Adele Toomey on her Youtube channel Let’s Get Inkie. In her video Adele credits Shannon Green as the inspiration behind Journaling by 5’s and I’ve linked to both of their videos in the description portion of my Youtube video which is below.

The five sessions  of Journaling by 5’s are

1 – background – apply Paint and/or ink: 20 pages in 15 minutes

2 – texture – collage recycled and/or other materials: 20 pages in 15 minutes

3 -Pattern – use stamps and/or stencils: 20 pages in 15 minutes

4 – focal – apply words and/or image as focal point: 20 pages in 15 minutes

5_ detail  – pen and/or ink: 20 pages in 15 minutes

when you’ve completed all 5 sessions you can go back and repeat any if you want.

In Shannon Green’s video she uses a composition notebook with some of the pages glued together leaving her with 20 thicker pages to work on.  Adele Toomey used 20 separate sheets of paper which is what I chose to do as well.  My pages were made using paper from a mixed media paper pad that I cut down in size to fit into my art journal binder.

My favorite step was the first step and I also enjoyed step three very much. Steps two and four were my least favorite steps, but over all I loved this whole project.  The time limit and having a next step made me keep going when some the pages were looking bad after each of the first three steps, but the fourth and fifth step pulled them all together, and in the end the pages turned out great.

A big thank you to Shannon Green and Adele Toomey for sharing this wonderful art journaling process!

Citrus Twist Kit – January 2016 Main Kit

I received my first kit club kit!

After watching many of my favorite youtubers using kits on their layouts I began checking into some.

They were all great looking, but I chose the Citrus Twist main kit because it was within my budget and (from what I could tell) it comes with a stamp set each month

I received a few extra things for being a new customer.

  • an extra stamp set
  • a chipboard frame
  • a tag
  • some wood veneer pieces
  • and a piece of flair

The kit came with:

  • a brown paper bag tied with pretty string
  • a page that had sketches and inspiration pieces
  • Heidi Swapp veneer words
  • glittery plus sign stickers
  • Heidi Swapp puffy stickers
  • Citrus twist tiny wood veneer pieces
  • Heidi Swapp phrase stickers
  • Seven Paper alpha stickers
  • a Citrus Twist cut apart sheet
  • 6 patterned papers
  • one white 12 x 12
  • one cream 12 x 12

Below is a video of what came in the kit along with the few extra thing they sent me for being a new customer.

I can’t wait to make some layouts with all theses goodies!

Scrapbook page – I love your smile

I’ve only started scrapbooking this past year so I have a lot of older pictures waiting for me to make pages with.

McKayla is 11 now, but I loved making a layout with this picture of her from when she was a baby.  Her chubby cheeks are gone now, but she still has that cute dimple.

For the patterned paper is used a Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm paper pad by American Crafts.

I matted the photo on black card stock.

I added doilies behind the red and pink script patterned paper strip and the photo.

Around the picture I placed a flower die cut, a yellow circle with a  heart in the middle and a sparkley butterfly sticker.

Below is a process video for the page.

Hiking Adventure Layout and process video

I loved using pieces from my Citrus Twist January 2016 main kit, watercolors and stamps on this layout.

The watercolor was inspired by a Crafty Maven Getaway inspiration piece linked below.

Inspiration Pieces

The photos on this layout are from hiking trip at Cuivre River State Part.  My sister and her husband took my girls and their daughter Katie on this hike as a part of Katie’s birthday weekend.

(I didn’t include Katie or her parents on this page because at the time I did this layout I hadn’t asked them yet if it was ok for me to post photos of them.  I have since asked and now have their permission to include them in future pages.)

Most of he  paper for this page came from my January Citrus twist kit, but I did use some scraps to die cut the leaves.

I used my StampeRor to stamp the wild flowers and dragon flies.

I added dragon flies and some black gems to the page after I finished filming, but you can see the rest of the processes in the video below.

Scrapbook Page – Shape

This week the challenge on the Victoria Marie Facebook group was to make a layout using a picture in a shape other than a square or rectangle.image

For the shape I choose two Sizzix framelit flower nesting dies to cut out the picture and the black border around the picture.   In the picture Emma and McKayla are sitting in a tree and I like how the flower shape compliments the image.

Most of the patterned paper comes from a Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm paper pad by American Crafts with the addition of  the black paper with the camera print behind the yellow bird which is from an Amy Tangerine paper pad.

I stamped and colored the three monkeys at the bottom of the page by the title.  I  added black paint spatter to the bottom and left side of the page and a butterfly, yellow bird and swirl flower sticker which are from a set bought at Dollar Tree.

Tuesday Morning Haul

A few week ago I went to Tuesday Morning and picked up a few goodies.

I got a super large stamp by Tattered Angles, 4 packs of smaller Ruby Violet cling stamps by Prima, several packs of AC This to That adhesive, frames from Pebbles, Switch Board and Bella Rouge chipboard stickers by Pink Paisley, a Dear Lizzy mini Album and a Mambi page kit.

Below is a video showing the things I bought.

Baby Shower Card

This past weekend I attended a baby shower where I gave the mom to be this pink baby outfit card I made which was inspired by several Pinterest pins.

The card base is heavy weight white card stock.

I added a layer of  dark pink card stock to the card base and topped it with a light pink card stock that I embossed with a basket weave embossing folder.

For the outfit part of the card I used a circle die to cut out the neck and leg openings.  I used a sunburst die and the circle die to create the white trim around the openings.

To create the arm areas measured about 1 1/2″ from the top of the card, marked 1/2″ in from the side of the card, drew a diagonal line from the mark to the left opening and then cut along the line.

I also added to punched white circles for buttons with dark pink hearts in the middle.

After I had the outfit finished I embossed it with a dot embossing folder and then added it to the front of the card.

Back to School Scrapbook page – sketch Challenge

The weekly challenge in the Victoria Marie FB Group this week is a sketch challenge this based on the sketch below by Laura Whitaker.

For this challenge I made a page of Emma & McKayla’s first days back to school and I love how it turned out.

The papers are from Shimelle True Stories 12″ x 12″ paper pad by American Crafts and a sheet of black card stock.  I used a stamp by Tattered Angels Screen Prints called Notes From The Garden and some black ink to add the swirls to the background paper.  I also added glossy accents to all the black dots on the background paper to add another texture to the finished page.  The coffee cup on the bottom left of the center piece was fussy cut from one of the pages from the paper pad.  I added the title using Tim Holtz idea-ology Label Letters.

Quick and easy flower birthday Card

This is a quick and easy birthday card that I made for my daughter to give to a friend.

I used heavy weight 110lb Recollections card stock for the base.  I inked the edged of the patterned paper and attached it to the base, then I used my StampeRor to stamp the sentiment so that I could stamp it over and over and get a really saturated inked image.  After stamping the sentiment I added the flower to the card using Glossy Accents for the adhesive.  (The flower was a left over from making hair clips with my daughters a couple of years ago. )
